New Ornament Series Celebrates South Berwick |

Inaugural Ornament Features the Current Home of the South Berwick Library
The residents of South Berwick will soon able to have a piece of history hanging on their holiday trees. This year, the Friends of the South Berwick Library have decided to start a South Berwick holiday ornament series, initially as part of their fundraising for the New Library. The ornaments will be cast in pewter, made by Hampshire Pewter, and will feature a different historic building or important South Berwick landmark each year.
This year the Friends decided to honor the long-time home of the Library for the past 40 years, the Jewett-Eastman House. Patti Mitchem, President of the Friends says, “We couldn’t ask for better timing to start this ornament series. We are honoring the current home of the Library as we prepare to move into the new home of the Library. The Library’s 40th Birthday is this year, and we hope people will associate this ornament with both the Library and the history of the Jewett-Eastman House.” |

Library Construction on Schedule |
|
Late Winter Move-in Planned Residents who toured the Public Library under construction on Young Street last week were excited to see grand, bright spaces in the future library building. With the addition almost finished and light from new windows illuminating the former sanctuary space, they were treated to a vision of a community space that is rapidly becoming reality. Town Manager Perry Ellsworth, who led the tour, said the project is well along and on schedule. “We are looking at a date of between the 15th and 30th (of December) to be pretty well wrapped up here,” he said, referring to the first phase of the construction project, which includes a weather tight building envelope with new roof, siding, windows, and mechanical systems. |
