  • Summer College Intern to organize "Lights on for the Library" in September
The Friends of South Berwick Library are looking for a unpaid part-time intern for the summer of 2013 to organize a fundraiser for our Capital Campaign. We have raised $820,000 of our $1.1 Million dollar goal, and plan to wrap up the Campaign at the end of 2013.

Our big community-wide fundraiser is called "Lights on for the Library." A specific evening will be chosen in September to go door to door to residents who leave their front light on, and collect money for the Library.

The Intern would be responsible for:

    • Planning several ways to get the word out- contribute to writing a press release, distribute posters, plan a town-wide mailing, and perhaps plan a radio appearance
    • Organizing Volunteers- Breaking the Town into Neighborhoods on a map, recruiting a Captain for each neighborhood, and ensuring each captain has several volunteers. They will learn to use and work with the Friends' database
    • Creating vessels for collecting money, as well as a system for counting money received

Hours will be approximately 10 hours a week for 8 weeks beginning mid-July through the night of the event in September. To be done for College Credit. FMI call Cari Quater, Campaign Coordinator at 207-384-2958.

  •  Community Captains for "Lights on for the Library" (stay tuned...)
  • 2 MHS Students to serve as Youth Liaisons for the Friends on an ongoing basis (Students going into So./Jr. year)

Work with us to further our mission:

Library Without Walls: working to raise awareness of our library and its resources by going out into the community, working with other organizations on events, projects, activities.

Capital Campaign: a new library building requires fundraising! Your enthusiasm and dedication to the project are valuable assets to fundraising.

Public Awareness: Spread the word out about our activities and projects.

Events: Large and small.

Volunteer for our regular fundraising activities:

Book Sale: held the second Saturday in May

Strawberry Festival booth: the 4th Saturday in June

Bake Sales: November Election and sometimes at the 2nd Tuesday in June balloting. Make phone calls, bake, staff the table.

Organizational help: There are many details to be attended to which can be done from your home. Like to make phone calls? Have good computer skills? Graphic design? All sorts of things.

Website: The Friends website is easily used, and doesn't require special skills to add information. Our website will be a valuable tool and resource as we work to get a new library building and a volunteer is needed to help with this.

Officers: We are very much in need of people to share the responsibility of guiding the Friends.
