Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 8th, 6:30 PM, South Berwick Library Minutes: April- Motion to Accept Minutes by Karen, 2nd by Nora, All Approve. President’s Report: • Book Sale was a great success- over $1900 was raised! • Annual Fund Drive Mailing going out this week. • Motion by Nora to authorize Patti Mitchem to sign agreement to transfer ownership of the Young Street property for 99 days to The Friends of the South Berwick Library from the Town of South Berwick. This is in order for the town to accept the $200,000 toxics abatement grant from the EPA (and to satisfy the IRS since the town has a municipal bond on the property). There will be no expense to the Friends; the town is indemnifying the organization and the individual directors. 2nd by Kathy, All Approve. • Motion by Nora to authorize Patti Mitchem to sign papers appointing the Town of South Berwick to serve as the agent of the Friends of the South Berwick Library for all purposes in connection with the receipt of the $200,000 cleanup subgrant from SMRPC. Nora 2nd, All Approve. • We should go over finances to establish a yearly monetary amount to contribute from Friends funds to the New Library Campaign to cover costs of events, printing, etc. This commitment will also be helpful for grants. Treasurer’s Report: • Year-to-Date Treasurer’s Report Filed. Library Director’s Report: Nothing new at this time. New Library Report: • Molly had started investigating grants for funding. • Create a general email that outlines positive points of New Library, so everyone can then personalize it for their contacts. Make it available as a PDF on the website. • Consider using Constant Contact as the email program for the Capitol Campaign. Kid’s Committee Report: • Kids Day- We will be doing decoupage plastic flower pots using cut-outs from discarded library books. • Also for Kids Day- An outline of the proposed New Library could be drawn on the ground in the Young St. parking lot using chalk. John Easter form the Knights of Columbus is willing to donate their fried dough stand for the day, with profits going to the Friends. New Business: • Get fliers out to neighborhoods- 2 per page. Patti will send it out, using image from mailer. • Molly had started investigating grants for funding Tabled: Library Without Walls: • Around 30 people attended the evening presentation by Phil Averill, which he thought a very respectable number. Discussion requested about funding his 4th grade program again next year at a cost of around $800 plus $100 for an evening program for the community. We want to go to the Strawberry Festival for grants related to the new library, so we don’t want to go to them for this, too. Or do we? Old Business: • Strawberry Festival Committee grant application due June 30th. They do not support fundraising efforts, i.e. we need to make a specific request each year, rather than seek a commitment to a capital campaign. Last month we talked about outdoor furniture, which can be used at both old and new libraries. Anyone want to investigate this and look at possibilities for an outside patio/garden area. We would like to apply for $5000 each year.
• Mamie’s description of Friends’ role for January joint meeting with LAB: o Raises funds to support library programs and goals o Draws from the community o Increases the understanding of, and support for, the library within the community o Generates new ties with the local community o Are we fulfilling these roles? What can we do better? Respectfully Submitted,
